Turkey’s defense, aviation exports reach record high in 2025

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s defense and aviation sector achieved exports totaling $10.05 billion in 2025, marking a 48% increase compared to the previous year, as stated by the head of the Defense Industries Secretariat.

At a ceremony in Istanbul revealing foreign trade statistics, Haluk Gorgun noted that 2025 set new records for Türkiye, both in overall exports and specifically within the defense industry. He emphasized that the country consistently broke monthly export records throughout the year, highlighting that December alone saw defense and aviation exports exceed $2.5 billion.

The figures for 2025 included $9.87 billion in goods exports and $184 million in services.

Gorgun also highlighted significant growth in new defense contracts, which expanded by roughly 80% over the year, compared with $7.1 billion in exports in 2024.

"In terms of creating outstanding orders from the contracts signed, we completed 2024 with $10 billion in new contracts, and 2025 with $17.8 billion, which is a 78% growth," Gorgun said.

He further explained that the sector’s expansion can be better understood by examining its contribution to Türkiye’s total exports. "In 2022, we exported $4.4 billion, and the share of defense and aviation exports in Türkiye's overall exports was 1.7%. Today, the share of defense and aviation exports in Türkiye's overall exports has reached 3.7%."

Gorgun attributed these gains to domestic companies producing high-quality, cost-efficient products while offering reliable after-sales support. He also mentioned that Türkiye had announced several significant contracts and successes over the past year, including a military ship export agreement with Portugal.
